Contributing Editor
Refinery29's Global Director of Editorial brought me on board to provide editorial support across all R29 verticals, including Unbothered, and SOMOS.
Beyond language mechanics, I provided strategic editorial support to directors and leadership to junior staff, guiding content decisions around story development, pitch conceptualization, and editorial priorities.
Most of my work at Refinery29 centered on journalistic standards and inclusive language practices across their Beauty, Fashion, Sex & Wellness, Entertainment, Politics, News, Work & Money, Shopping, and Lifestyle pillars.
Key responsibilities included helping writers and editors navigate editorial challenges from vetting health and beauty claims to ensuring assertions were properly cited rather than based on generalizations and personal opinions, establishing objectivity in social and political coverage, and making sure all content respected diverse reader autonomy, perspectives, and experiences.
This also required maintaining consistency in style, spelling, grammar, legal compliance requirements, and cultural context and sensitivity across US, UK, and Australian editions.
